STERLING, VA (Wisconsin Radio Network) -- Donald Trump says he’s not ready endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his bid for reelection. Wisconsin’s Ryan faces a Republican primary challenge next Tuesday from businessman Paul Nehlon, whom Trump praised for running a “very good campaign.”
In an interview with the Washington Post, Trump refused to endorse Ryan, using language very similar to that employed by Ryan before he decided to endorse the GOP presidential candidate.
Trump said, “I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country. We need very strong leadership. We need very, very strong leadership. And I’m just not quite there yet. I’m not quite there yet.”
A Ryan spokesman said the Janesville Republican has never asked for Trump’s endorsement.
