STURGIS, SD (KELO-AM) It was expected that the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally would be smaller than last year's monster 75th rally, but now it's official.
State traffic data indicate that rally attendance so far is about 40 percent lower than in 2015. In fact, it appears that traffic is below normal.
Two people have died in crashes so far this rally. The latest was a 68-year-old woman thrown from the back of a motorcycle in a crash with a pickup near Hill City. She was not wearing a helmet. By this time at last year's rally there had been 10 traffic deaths.
At least 28 people have been injured in accidents, as of the latest report from the State Department of Public Safety.
