LCS 25 to be Named for Marinette

MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - The city of Marinette will be honored for being the location where half the U.S. Navy's littoral combat ships are built.

In a statement from Wisconsin Congressman Reid Ribble's office, the U.S. Navy has agreed to name LCS 25 the USS Marinette. It's expected to be formally announced on September 22.

The ship is scheduled to be completed and delivered to the Navy in 2020, according to Lockheed Martin, which oversees LCS construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine.

Ribble, a Republican representing the 8th Congressional District, says he has been pushing for a ship to be named for Marinette since 2011.

Construction of the littoral combat ships is split between Marinette Marine and an Alabama shipyard.
