SIOUX FALLS,SD (KELO-AM) - Senator John Thune is pulling his support for Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump. In a Twitter statement issued Saturday, Thune says "Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately." Thune is the first Republican Senate leader to call for a Trump pullout.
Governor Dennis Daugaard agrees, tweeting "Enough is enough. Donald Trump should withdraw in favor of Governor Mike Pence. This election is too important." Lieutenant Governor Matt Michels re-tweeted the Governor's post and added "Time is NOW! Trump must step aside for Pence...for our party and country."
Senator Mike Rounds issued a statement through spokesperson Natalie Krings, denouncing comments made by Trump, saying "This is clearly a situation in which Sen. Rounds disagrees with the comments Mr. Trump made, they are deplorable and indefensible."
Republican Congresswoman Kristi Noem, while not immediately pulling her endorsement said on social media "No one should ever talk about a woman - another person for that matter - in the repulsive way that Donald Trump did. Period." Her challenger, Democrat Paula Hawks, called for Noem to explain "why she supported Trump in the first place"
Trump issued a video apology for his decade-old comments late Friday night.
