MANDAN, ND (KFGO) - Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier says oil pipeline protesters have refused to remove roadblocks on a highway and won't leave a new camp north of the original Spirit Camp south of Mandan. That new camp is on land now owned by the developers of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Kirchmeier and Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney say they plan to continue to try to convince the protesters to move back to the main camp and open the roads. State Hwy. 1806 is blocked by vehicles, tents and logs.
Energy Transfer Partners, the developer of the pipeline, says it will push for prosecution of the protesters if they don’t voluntarily leave the new camp.
