St Louis, MO (KELO-AM) A Sioux Falls woman has been awarded $55 million in her talcum powder suit against Johnson & Johnson.
Lawyers for 62-year-old Gloria Ristesund convinced the jury in St. Louis, Missouri that Johnson Baby Powder caused the woman's ovarian cancer. She'd been using the powder for nearly 40 years. She had to have a hysterectomy. Ristesund is apparently in cancer remission.
Her lawyers accused Johnson & Johnson of putting profit above women's lives. The company says it will appeal. It says science has proven its products perfectly safe.
Just a couple of months ago, an Alabama woman won a similar lawsuit and there are hundreds of others percolating through the courts.
