Thousands say goodbye to Bobby Vee

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (KFGO) - Thousands packed into St. John's Abbey in Collegeville, Minn. Wednesday to remember pop music legend Bobby Vee. The 73-year-old Fargo native died last week from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

KFGO's Bob Harris says up to 3,000 people attended the funeral, including performers Johnny Holm, Brian Setzer of the “Stray Cats” and Brian Hyland.

Vee was a teen idol in the 1960's and appeared on "American Bandstand" with Dick Clark. His career was launched at the Moorhead Armory in 1959, when Vee took the stage for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the “Big Bopper” who died in an airplane crash while on their way to the concert.

Vee is buried in Collegeville next to his wife Karen Bergen, who died last year.
