SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Conservation groups are seeking bipartisan action to safeguard the nation's natural resources.
Lew Carpenter with the National Wildlife Federation says public land and it's diverse wildlife are the country's heritage and legacy and protecting them is an issue everyone can support.
Carpenter says conservation remain an overreaching issue, and it has the potential to bring people from all parties and ideologies together. He believes protecting the environment is something all sides support.
Federation President Collin O'Mara hopes the Trump administration recognizes the benefits of clean energy and vibrant outdoor economy.
O'mara credits the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act with making great gains in protecting natural resources. He says "Americans have seen health outcomes go up at the same tme we've seen the GDP go up." He says that proves "we can have a strong environment and a health economy at the same time."
The Federation supports keeping public lands open for hunting, fishing, hiking and camping which benefits local economies.
