Wetterling killer given 20 years

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KFGO) - An Annandale, Minnesota man who confessed to kidnapping, sexually assaulting and killing 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling 27 years ago has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for his guilty plea to having child pornography.

Danny Heinrich, 53, led the FBI and Stearns County investigators to Jacob's remains last summer. It was as part of a plea agreement. Prosecutors then promised not to charge Heinrich with murder. The 20-year sentence from U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank is the maximum federal law allows on the single child pornography count.

Jacob was taken from near his home in St. Joseph in central Minnesota on Oct. 22, 1989 as he, his brother and a friend rode their bikes.
