WASHINGTON (WHTC) - The enrollment deadline for the Affordable Care Act is Monday.
A previous deadline of last week was extended for a few days, but those who wish to get their health care coverage through the federal government marketplace system and want it to begin on January 1st need to sign up by the end of December 19th. New enrollments began on November 1st and there has been a substantial jump since the presidential election eight days later over fears that the system will be changed by majority Republicans on Capitol Hill, bolstered by the January 20th inauguration of President Donald Trump.
House Republican Bill Huizenga (R-Zeeland, MI) says that GOP lawmakers want to overhaul, not eliminate completely Obamacare, when a new session of Congress begins next month. "The goal of having people covered is not a bad goal," he explained. "It's not a goal that is somewhat reserved for one party or for one philosophy. The question is how do you do it and how do you make sure that you don't harm others in the meantime that are accessing healthcare and the healthcare system that they do want and do like."
