More arrests, injuries in third night of DAPL clashes

MORTON COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) - A third consecutive night of protester activity near the main camp of Dakota Pipeline protest camp resulted in 21 arrests.

The Morton County Sheriff's Office says six law enforcement officers suffered minor injuries and one protester was taken to a hospital in the clash at the blockaded Backwater bridge Wednesday night.

Authorities say a group of protesters gathered on the bridge and over four hours set tire fires in and around the bridge and flanked authorities several time to get behind them. As the crowd grew more agrressive officers used less-than-lethal ammunition against protesters, including bean bag rounds and tear gas.

The officers suffered ankle, shoulder, wrist and hand injuries. The protester who was taken to a hospital suffered a face injury. Protesters reported other injuries on social media.

Many of those arrested were taken to the Mercer County Jail in Stanton, North Dakota.
