Analyst: Bernie good bet to win South Dakota

Undated (KELO-AM) Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders stumped across South Dakota on Thursday, hoping to win the June 7 primary to keep the heat on Hillary Clinton.

His chances are good says veteran South Dakota Political Analyst Bob Burns,

"The Democratic Party does allow independents to participate," Burns tells KELO Radio, "and Sanders has done very well in those states, secondly there is a very small minority vote in South Dakota and Sanders has run better in those states which are more white."

Burns also says that South Dakota has always had a populist streak and that should help Sanders against Clinton. For the record, Hillary Clinton beat Barak Obama in the 2008 South Dakota primary.

Clinton is way, way ahead in the delegate count, but Burns says Sanders is hoping that a string of primary victories might loosen up some of Clinton's super delegates.

Obviously, the Clinton campaign sees the importance of South Dakota since former President Bill Clinton will stump for his wife later this month in Sioux Falls.

The Vermont Senator and self-described Socialist, was campaigning in Pine Ridge and Rapid City and capping the day with an evening rally at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
