SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - By age 18, one in three girls and one in six boys will be sexually assaulted.
Police Lieutenant Mike Colwill says April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and the Compass Center in Sioux Falls has a wreath in the Law Enforcement Center to raise awareness of the problem.
Colwill says the Compass Center asks that anyone who knows a sexual assault victim to put a purple ribbon on the wreath which will travel through several locations in Sioux Falls.
The Compass Center offers victims a 24 hour crisis line, ER response, counseling, legal and court advocacy and education. These services are offered in Minnehaha, Lincoln, McCook and Turner Counties.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a month to educate and create awareness and build community support for survivors.The goal is to educate the community, and create positive change and peaceful solutions.
The Compass Center's Services are provided for victims at no charge.
