Hundreds turn out for memorial bike ride in Kalamazoo [PHOTOS, AUDIO]

KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) -- Members of the Kalamazoo biking community came out in great numbers Wednesday nigh for a hastily-arranged but well-attended silent bike ride to honor the victims of Tuesday night’s bike tragedy.

Over 600 bikers filled both the front and side parking lots at the Arcadia Brewing Company.

Sheila Wood, who helped organize the event, said she was happy with the turnout but not surprised. She said they are a tightly-knit and unified community with a laser focus on improving safety for bikers.

They rode a five-mile course around the downtown silently, two abreast for safety, and were asked to pray and reflect during the voyage.

St. Thomas Moore Community Church near the Western Michigan University campus is planning a prayer service for the victims of this week's bike Tragedy. Two of the victims, Tony Nelson and Larry Paulik, were members of the congregation.

It will begin at 7 p.m. at 421 Monroe St.
