SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELOAM) - Random robberies are rare in Sioux Falls but police say there have been two involving knives this week and there are some similarities.

Sergeant Sean Kooistra says in both two male teens were robbed of their iphones and one victim was beaten.

Kooistra says in both cases the victims were approached by strangers, threatened with a knife and robbed of their cell phones.  He says it's a bit unusual for Sioux Falls and investigators can't say for certain that the cases are related.

Kooistra describes the suspects as three to four black males, one robbery happened at Marion Park south of 41st Street and the other at 14th and Minnesota.

At the 14th and Minnesota robbery, the suspects told the victim they "liked his chains" around his neck. One of the men produced a knife and another hit the victim and they took his chains and phone.

In the Monday heist, witness say they saw the suspects flee the scene in a gold sedan.
